Publishing a book is supposed to be exciting. You’ve written something worth sharing — now you just want readers. But the industry makes it feel impossible.
Traditional publishers, big bookstores, and self-publishing platforms all promise to help. Maybe you’ve tried them. Yet, here you are.
Unfortunately, most publishing systems are either slow, opaque, underpaying, or downright exhausting. You know?
Not Books.by. Books.by is refreshingly straightforward, with a simple promise: your store, your readers, your royalties.
Books.by was founded in 2022 as the author-friendly alternative to Amazon. Transparency isn’t a nice-to-have — it’s the foundation. Even our parent company's legal name, 'For Authors, Inc', reflects our mission: to be the first self-publishing platform that actually puts authors first.
Books.by is famously fair, simple, and author-first. That’s the trifecta. It’s designed for independent authors who want freedom and clarity, not confusion and red tape. Every day, authors run their own bookstores on Books.by, earning more, connecting directly with readers, and keeping 100% of their royalties.
So, we invite you to poke around, see how it works, and try Books.by today. We’d be honored to have you as part of our author community. Thank you.
— The Books.by Team
Before Books.by, our team spent decades building technology for self-publishing companies. We saw firsthand why the experience was so often stacked against authors — largely because we were the ones who built the tools that made it possible.
Again and again, we heard the same frustrations: delayed payments, confusing royalty reports, expensive bookstore returns, no visibility into who was buying their books, and no control over how those books were presented or sold.
We sympathized with every author who reached out, because deep down, we knew exactly where their pain came from. The system wasn’t broken — it was built that way. Every listing, every sales report, every royalty payment was routed through a maze of publishers, distributors, and retailers. Each layer withheld data and took a cut, until the person who had done the real work — the author — was left with the smallest share and the least transparency.
Eventually, the irony became impossible to ignore. The self-publishing industry had become heavily tilted towards publishers, and nobody was supporting the very authors that it depended on. That realization became the turning point — the moment we decided to stop patching a flawed model and start building a new one that put authors first.
We began with a simple question: What if authors could cut out all of the middlemen, and create their own bookstore?
What if we let authors sell directly to their readers? What if they could own the entire process — publishing, printing and payment — and see every sale in real time?
That question became Books.by.
By designing a new kind of publishing model, we set out to solve the problems that had always held authors back.
Can I see who bought my book? Yes.
Can I get paid the next day instead of waiting 90 days? Yes.
Can I earn enough to make a living from my book, and not give the majority to a publisher? Yes.
Can I contact my readers directly, to market and sell my next book? Yes.
Can I change my price, or remove my book listing when I want to? Yes.
To make sure these values were built into everything we do, we registered our parent company as For Authors, Inc. — a daily reminder of who we serve and why we exist.
Books.by isn’t another self-publishing marketplace. It’s the infrastructure for a new kind of publishing — one that gives authors back control over their work, their income, and their audience.

Your home screen is your bookstore. No middlemen. No waiting months for a royalty report. You can see your book, your sales, and your readers all in one place. It’s your calm, empowering starting point every morning.
Every author has their own storefront. Readers see your books, your story, your brand — not a giant platform competing to sell someone else’s titles. And you can highlight your bestsellers, pre-orders, and new launches in seconds.

Books.by doesn’t hide sales behind quarterly reports or complicated spreadsheets. Every order is yours to see. Every buyer is yours to know. Every royalty is yours to keep.
Authors constantly wonder: Did my promotion actually make any sales? Who bought my book? When will I get paid? On Books.by, those aren’t mysteries. They’re facts, available instantly, updated in real time.
In the months ahead, you’ll see even more ways to make your bookstore your own — new themes, storefront layouts, and design tools that let you express your brand and connect with readers in style. From customizable author pages to enhanced analytics and creative marketing tools, Books.by is evolving into a complete ecosystem for modern authors.

Start today with Books.by and keep 100% of your sales, readers, and royalties.
